Security & Firearms Training Academy (SAFTA) operates from North Highlands as a veteran-owned training academy founded by Marine Corps veterans, retired law enforcement agents, and private security professionals. The academy's faculty members have worked with California's Bureau of Security and Investigative Services for over 70 years and have written training manuals still in use today. Instructor Jessie Meeker serves as Chief Operating Officer and holds NRA Law Enforcement Firearm Instructor certification #212552778, with eight years of law enforcement experience in Arizona and two deployments as a Military Police Officer during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Additional instructors include Steve Caballero, who serves on the Governor-appointed BSIS disciplinary review committee and holds Sacramento Office of Education Chief Instructor credentials for law enforcement, and Patrick L. Alexander, who serves on the BSIS Firearm Training Committee and operates as an expert witness in firearms, use of force, and private security. The academy offers CCW training courses approved by multiple Northern California counties and conducts firearms training at Placer Sporting Club, a private indoor shooting range in Roseville. SAFTA provides basic firearm and instinct shooting courses designed for students of all ability levels, alongside Guard Card training, Security Officer Firearms certification, and American Red Cross CPR courses. All classes meet California DOJ and local sheriff requirements. Students receive a certificate of completion and range qualification results on the day of training.
