2nd Amendment Firearms Academy

Doug Kevilus founded 2A Firearms Academy to serve Marin, Solano, and surrounding Bay Area counties with California DOJ-certified CCW instruction built on U.S. Army veteran experience and advanced credentials including NRA Chief Range Officer, NROI Chief Range Officer, California DOJ CCW certification, and U.S. LawShield legal-use-of-force training. Co-founder Ryan Lewis holds POST Certified Pistol Instructor status, USCCA Concealed Carry & Home Defense Fundamentals certification, and NRA Range Officer credentials, leading live-fire qualifications and advanced performance-building sessions. The Marin County Sheriff's Office lists 2A Firearms Academy as an officially approved training provider in county-published instructor lists, affirming that training from non-approved facilities will not be accepted. Initial sixteen-hour courses run $425 plus $50 range fees and include Andrew Branca's "The Law of Self Defense" book, proprietary e-books covering pre-attack indicators, de-escalation systems, thirty-day carry checklists, and dry-fire training playbooks. Eight-hour renewals cost $275. Graduates access exclusive alumni-only training including Dynamic Drill Day, low-light and no-light pistol courses, Level 2 Practical Shooting, and private coaching sessions unavailable to the public. Curriculum emphasizes California-specific legal frameworks—Ability-Opportunity-Jeopardy, reasonable person standard, disparity of force, proportionality—alongside holster draw techniques, stoppage clearing, dynamic movement under stress, and conflict avoidance strategies. Equipment requirements specify KYDEX OWB holsters, electronic hearing protection, 350 rounds for primary qualification firearms plus 30 rounds per additional gun, and tactical pants recommended for range days. Classes require phone registration at 707-410-0389 and minimum six-student enrollment, with qualification testing conducted on live-fire ranges featuring moving attack targets traveling seven yards in 1.5 seconds. The academy provides add-on Florida and Arizona non-resident permit training for $50, extending legal carry recognition to 34 states outside California. Instructors: Doug Kevilus
